Surdex is a leading provider of geospatial data and mapping services. We currently have a position available that has a dual role - a single engine piston (C206) Pilot (based at KSUS) and Aerial Mapping Sensor Operator. You are required to live in the metro St. Louis area.

You will be a Pilot on some flights and Aerial Sensor Operator on others. The role of the Sensor Operator is to ensure that the cameras and sensors obtain clear, accurate imagery and data while in flight. You will train first as a Sensor Operator. As a pilot, you can expect to obtain approximately 300+ hours per year.

The flight rotation schedule is 15 consecutive days on rotation (out-of-town) and 6 days off. The schedule is pre-planned and off-duty time includes a weekend. During the rotation, you will fly in various locations throughout most of the continental U.S.

We chase blue skies, which means the day starts early and some days may be long. At times, you will be required to reposition the aircraft to maximize good weather, so adaptability is critical.

The Pilot and Sensor Operator work as a team to:

  • Ensure aircraft is airworthy and obtain airspace permissions.
  • Prepare and coordinate flight plans and project details.
  • Monitor weather and ensure opportunities are not missed to acquire data.
  • Precisely fly grid patterns, maintaining situational awareness of aircraft and airspace.
  • Execute day or night photo/data acquisition with maximum efficiency.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 1+ years' aviation-related, GIS, photography, or military drone operation experience.
  • College coursework in aviation, GIS, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Commercial Pilot certificate, SEL and instrument rating required, MEL preferred.
  • 300+ hours total time with high performance and complex endorsements.
  • 2nd class medical, passport and driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass DOT pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug tests, as well as a background check.
  • Must have a personal credit card with minimum of $3,000 available credit. All expenses are reimbursed weekly (commercial flight, hotel, rental car and meals).
  • Team player committed to doing high quality work in all roles.
  • Required to reside in metro St. Louis area.
  • Must be able to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred:

  • 2+ years' aviation-related, GIS, photography, or military drone operation experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in aviation, GIS, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or a related field.
  • CFI, CFII, MEI.
