Airborne Sensor Operator / Aerial Photographer
Surdex is a leading geospatial mapping firm with ten aircraft that acquire imagery and data for various mapping projects. We have a great opportunity to join our flight team as a digital camera and sensor operator while flying in aircraft all around the country. This position involves a great deal of travel out-of-town, generally with a schedule of 15 days working and 6 days off. Must reside in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Only local candidates will be considered.
This may be the right job for you if you have:
- Degree, coursework or experience in geography, GIS, engineering, survey or mapping
- Experience in digital photography
- Aviation experience or training including pilots, flight operations or UAV (drones)
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Assembling, loading, maintaining and operating all camera equipment and systems
- Monitoring and adjusting the equipment's operation and make minor repairs in flight
- Recording data accurately while on each flight line on the grid
- Assisting the pilot with decisions to re-fly lines if there are problems with the data
- Uploading data to the FTP site after each mission is flown
Qualifications for success:
- Must be a team player and able to work with various personalities
- Proficient in verbal and written English
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office
- Very detailed, punctual and organized
- Able to learn technical equipment and processes
- Must be able to work an out-of-town schedule of 15 days on and 6 days off
Essential Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move at least 50 pounds of equipment and supplies, with or without assistance
- Ability to sit in a confined space in small aircraft for up to six (6) hours at a time
- Visual acuity to see close-up, distance, color, periphery and depth
- Ability to adapt to changing temperatures, noise, light and altitude
- Ability to pass DOT pre-employment, random and post-accident drug tests
- Must maintain a credit card with available credit of $3,000 to charge expenses. Weekly reimbursement of expenses is provided
- U.S Passport or availability to obtain one
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
